2 . Description of holistic music therapy - methods of holistic music therapy by Lubomir Holzer (CMLH)
Holistic music therapy in the form of Lubomír Holzer's Holistic Music Therapy Method (CMLH) is an independent expressive therapeutic discipline. It has in its philosophical basis a holistic approach to the world, the universe, man and therapy itself. It always acts comprehensively on the physical, psychological, emotional, social, energetic, mental and spiritual components of the human being and its effects are also complex. It focuses not only on the solution of a specific therapeutic case, it also aims at finding a favourable balance in all components of the human being, the intention of his/her personal development and, in a broader sense, human existence as such. Holistic music therapy, the CMLH method, has its theoretical background, foundations and principles. These postulates are always guided by and adhered to by EACM members in their work as music therapists. CM, the CMLH method, is a functional method, the effectiveness of which is demonstrated by ongoing empirical research, research conducted in the context of theses, bachelor theses and a number of case studies conducted in the work with individual clients. CMLH is understood as a universal non-invasive therapeutic and preventive tool without known contraindications, for all those in need from all areas of health or social classification, from all types of health, social or educational institutions and from the entire area of competence of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health. CMLH is also applied in the framework of preventive programmes, personal development of the individual and the field of recreology. It is also intended for the general public. Holistic music therapy, the CMLH method, works in the field of natural acoustic laws valid in the terrestrial environment, the manifestation of which is the so-called natural tuning with a characteristic interval arrangement of the relationships between tones. Man, by his existence, is also part of the laws of nature. The human organism is therefore in ideal harmonic resonance with the natural tuning. Music played and sung in natural tuning has been shown to have the most profound therapeutic effects. This postulate is confirmed by many medical researches all over the world. Music therapy music is primarily created and used in a given space and time by the holistic music therapist himself. As therapeutic tools he uses specific procedures, techniques, forms, special music therapy singing techniques and specific playing on exclusively acoustic musical instruments made by hand from natural materials.
General work and professional duties
A holistic music therapist must act in accordance with the quality standards of the specific workplace where he/she performs music therapy. A holistic music therapist working in social services in the Czech Republic must act in accordance with the Quality Standards for Social Services as amended by law. His/her work must comply with the specific quality standards of the organisation where the music therapist works.
Specific obligations towards clients
A holistic music therapist must not act to satisfy his/her personal interests (emotional and social). The holistic music therapist shall only carry out consultations, diagnosis and therapy on the basis of the client's or the client's parent's or legal guardian's own decision and with the express consent of the client or the client's parent or legal guardian. A holistic music therapist does not perform procedures or treatments on clients that are outside the scope of his/her practice, experience, training, and education. He/she has the right to refuse to care for a client for professional, professional and personal reasons. He/she shall refer the rejected client to the care of another professional therapist.
5. Professional competences
The guarantor of the professional education of holistic music therapists is Palacký University in Olomouc, where comprehensive education and training takes place within the framework of lifelong learning courses Holistic Music Therapy 1 (CM 1), Holistic Music Therapy 2 (CM 2) and Holistic Music Therapy 3 (CM 3) with long-term accreditation by the Ministry of Education and Science. Completion of CM 1 entitles a music therapist to begin therapeutic activity. Music therapists are required to practice their profession in a competent and ethical manner. The holistic music therapist is obliged to further improve his/her professional level within the framework of continuous professional development, i.e. through lifelong education, training and supervision. Education is always primary in the education and training process in holistic music therapy. However, due to the complexity of CMLH, therapeutic and self-therapeutic effects also occur secondarily. The whole process is always controlled by the trainer and supervision. The student of holistic music therapy is aware of this complex process. There is always a primary therapy during the therapeutic process. At the same time, however, there is obviously a latent diagnosis and education of the music therapist. Again, this is a complex process. The holistic music therapist is aware of the effects of the CMLH method on his/her person during his/her independent practice and there is an ongoing self-therapeutic process.
Personality profile, behaviour and approach of a holistic music therapist
A holistic music therapist must be of good integrity, reliable and responsible. Must have the ability to self-reflect, good self-regulation and empathy. Emotional balance, work stability and organizational skills are also prerequisites for his/her work. A music therapist should recognise the limits of his/her professional abilities and provide services to clients only if his/her education, practical training and experience entitle him/her to do so. In the event that a music therapist's personal problem or external or internal conflict may interfere with or adversely affect his/her work performance, he/she shall seek appropriate professional consultation (supervision) or therapeutic assistance. The music therapist cooperates with other colleagues, taking into account their contributions. In the event of a breach of ethical rules by a colleague, the music therapist is obliged to personally warn the colleague of his/her unethical behaviour. If no correction is made, he/she is obliged to inform the Ethics Committee of EACM, z. s. The holistic music therapist tries to apply a holistic approach in his/her life in relation to people, nature and the world. He develops and maintains his health and balance on all levels - physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and spiritual. The holistic music therapist strives to contribute to the improvement of the work of EACM, z.s. at all levels and participates in the development of holistic music therapy. To the best of his/her ability, he/she supports and promotes music therapy in public life, in other professional organisations and governmental bodies, at regional, national and international level.
Data protection, confidentiality
The music therapist respects and protects confidential information obtained in the course of therapeutic work. Maintains confidentiality of the client's personal matters and facts. He/she shall not discuss the client's affairs with anyone other than the person who is co-responsible for the client's care. Disclosure is only possible in justified cases (teaching, research, case studies) with the written permission of the client or with the consent of the client's legal representative. The music therapist provides his/her services in a suitable environment that protects the privacy of the clients. He/she does not solve operational, professional or personal problems in the presence of clients.
Code of Ethics for Education and Training
The above mentioned code of ethics is also binding for music therapy training.
